What Job Seekers Need to Know About the Future of RecruitingWhat Job Seekers Need to Know About the Future of RecruitingGet the inside scoop on how recruiters do their job.Last year I had the honor of emceeing Ladders Second Annual JobMobile Summit, a national conference for recruiters and employers. At the event, we discussed innovative ways recruiters can use technology, their employment brand, and their candidate application and interview processes to find candidates like you. What does this mean for you? I just got the inside scoop on how recruiters do their jobs, and you can use this information to connect with them mora easily.Heres what you need to knowResumes arent going anywhere.During the summit, we discussed the role of the resume in a modern job search. The general consensus from ur panelists was that professionals still need a traditional resume to pass along to networking connections and use for online job applications. However, its important to build and maintain a str ong online brand that aligns with this resume and supports your current job goals.Mobile job applications are becoming more popular.Store a copy of your resume and any other important personal branding materials on a site like Dropbox or iCloud so you can easily apply to positions while on the go from your mobile device. Some sites also allow you to use your LinkedIn profile in lieu of a resume for your application, so make sure yours is fully fleshed out, aligned with your current resume, and includes a professional-looking head shot.Theres no excuse for not knowing about the company.Employers are spending more money to build out their employment brands. From their About Us sections filled with videos and social media accounts to company profiles on sites like The Muse and Glassdoor, theres tons of company information available when youre preparing to apply for a job or interview with a company.Employee referrals are still the number one source for hires.Recruiters value referrals above other candidates because the hiring time is traditionally shorter, the cultural fit tends to be better, and employee turnover is lower. Make networking a priority during your job search so you can build the right connections to get your application past the gatekeepers and into the hiring managers hands. Virtual interviews are here to stay.Good news for those of you who are interested in relocating for work More and more employers are willing to source candidates from outside the companys location. As a result, more recruiters are turning towards phone calls and video conferences to interview these candidates. In this day and age, its important for job seekers to become comfortable with interviewing over the phone and through platforms like Skype, Google Hangouts and FaceTime.
